What is Subaru Wilderness
Some competing models have trim levels that look rugged but are little more than appearance packages, perhaps with a set of all-terrain tires. The Subaru Wilderness trim adds exclusive equipment and unique characteristics to enhance the vehicle's off-road prospects. The Subaru Outback was the automaker's first nameplate to offer a Wilderness variant, with the Forester Wilderness joining the lineup the following year. In 2024, the redesigned third-gen Crosstrek became the third and most recent Subaru Wilderness model.
Subaru Wilderness models share many common attributes, including:
- Dual-function Subaru X-MODE®: advanced traction management system with additional settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud)
- Revised final drive ratio for improved climbing capability
- 17-inch matte black-painted alloy wheels
- Yokohama GEOLANDAR® all-terrain tires
- Terrain-tuned suspension
- Taller ground clearance: 9.3 inches in the Crosstrek, 9.2 inches in the Forester, and 9.5 inches in the Outback.
- Increased approach/departure angles
- Reinforced roof rails with higher load limits
- Anti-glare hood decal
- Anodized Copper-finished interior and exterior accents
- StarTex® water-repellant upholstery
