The Subaru Forester is an impressively well-rounded compact crossover. It offers spacious accommodations, cozy seats, a smooth ride, and abundant practicality. It also offers many appealing amenities, including a suite of Subaru EyeSight® driver aids as standard equipment. Plus, with attributes like Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Subaru X-MODE® traction management, and tall ground clearance, the Subaru Forester is well-suited to venturing beyond the asphalt – particularly in its adventure-ready Wilderness trim.
The Subaru Forester is set to get even better for the 2025 model year. Arriving next spring, the sixth-gen Forester features updated styling and amenities, new in-vehicle tech, and improved ride quality. While we don't have all the final details, here's a quick rundown of what we know so far.
2025 Subaru Forester: Design
The 2025 Forester sports a new, contemporary aesthetic that's both sleek and rugged. Muscular sculpting and a broad-shouldered stance give the 2025 Forester an assertive presence, while the steeper rear gate and glass provide increased cargo capacity. The dynamic front fascia accentuates the 2025 Forester's bold character, with a prominent grille that merges with the narrowed DRLs and compact LED headlights to create an integrated shield effect.
Base and Premium models have 17-inch alloy wheels, while Limited models get 18-inch alloy wheels. Sport and Touring models upgrade to stylish 19-inch alloy wheels. Subaru states that the 2025 Forester's platform has been tuned for 10% stiffer torsional rigidity for improved safety and more capable handling. It also results in less cabin noise and an even smoother ride.
2025 Subaru Forester: Performance
The 2025 Forester is propelled by a 2.5-liter BOXER® four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. Subaru's Lineartronic® CVT has been adjusted for smoother, quieter performance. It also features an 8-speed manual mode with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters on all but the base trim. Additionally, all 2025 Forester models include Active Torque Vectoring and an SI-Drive performance management system.
Like all Subaru SUVs, the 2025 Forester comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, providing surefooted handling for wintery Scarborough and Saco commutes. The Forester's 8.7-inch ground clearance is taller than most segment competitors, making it easier to traverse challenging terrain. The Forester Premium adds X-MODE® advanced traction management with Hill Descent Control. All higher trim levels upgrade to a dual-function X-MODE® system for improved capability in adverse conditions like deep snow or mud.
2025 Subaru Forester: Accommodations and Technology
The 2025 Forester's interior is spacious and inviting, with durable materials, modern styling, and seats that provide long-distance comfort. It provides ample head and legroom throughout the cabin, with 29.6 cubic feet to spare for gear and groceries behind the second row. Folding the rear seats expands cargo capacity to a cavernous 74.4 cubic feet. For the first time in a Subaru model, the 2025 Forester is available with a Hands-Free Power Rear Gate, making it easy to access the cargo area even when your arms are full.
The Forester's base trim has dual 7.0-inch high-res touchscreens. The top infotainment display includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for convenient smartphone connectivity. The lower screen houses climate and vehicle settings, preserving the clean cabin layout without hindering accessibility. All higher trim levels upgrade to the all-new 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration.
2025 Subaru Forester: Safety
Subaru's award-winning EyeSight® driver-assistance suite has been upgraded with a wider field of view and updated software, allowing the Forester to identify cyclists and pedestrians at intersections sooner. All models come standard with technologies like:
- Pre-Collision Braking and Throttle Management
- Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering
- Lane Departure and Sway Warning
- Lane Keep Assist
- High Beam Assist
- Rear Seat Reminder
Available driver aids include Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Steering, a Surround View Monitor, and a DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System.
